Fijke Middendorp 2022

Private view: 19 March 18:00-20:00

Exhibition: 09 March - 02 April
12:00-18:00 Wednesday- Saturday

With her daily practice of morning drawings as a starting point, Fijke creates images that have a dreamlike, otherworldly quality.  Over the years her mental picture library has been filled with visual impressions; walking in nature, watching films and reading fantasy and science fiction novels are her preferred methods to ‘stock the pond’.

Fijke worked as a GP in the Netherlands, and then in Cornwall. Eleven years ago she left her job and started studying towards a BA in Contemporary Creative Practice at Cornwall College, where she fell in love with printmaking. She says: ‘ felt as if I had finally arrived in my own life. She now has a studio at Krowji.

Combining different printing techniques, like collagraph, drypoint and monoprint, she uses the magic of her printing press to produce unique works on paper. Recurrent themes are love, loss and longing, intimacy and vulnerability.
